FAQ
Can I register my pet online?
If your pet is not registered with Europetnet yet and you want to ensure you will be contacted if your pet were to get lost while abroad, you have to register him with a database that is MEMBER of Europetnet. Try then to enter its identification number on this website to check its registration. That’s enough!

What is a transponder?
It is a very small eletronic device which uses passive RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, providing an animal a unique and permanent identification number. It contains a microchip (with the unique alphanumeric identification code), an antenna and a capacitor. The transponder must be inserted under the skin of the animal and remains inactive until read by a compatible scanner. The process is painless, fast to implement, cost-effective and, generally speaking, more efficient than a tattoo.

What about pet identification by tattoo?
Tattooing is also a method of identification and will conform to EC/EU only until 2012. Pets identified by a tattoos are also registered in our databank.

Does everybody automatically consult this website if they find a lost pet?
No. Generally the person brings the pet to a vet, a protection association or other professionals. These persons consult Europetnet database via this website or they contact the national database that will do it.

What do I have to do exactly if I find a lost pet?
Fill in the microchip number of the pet on this website. If you don't have the appropriate scanner, go to a vet, a Rescue Society or a welfare organisation. Then, get in touch with the association which the pet is registered in (following the results of the search). If no result is found, this site proposes you to write an e-mail to extend the research.

If a microchip has not been found, what is happening when I am writing an e-mail? What are you doing with it?
This is notably what distinguishes Europetnet from simple search engines tools. When a search fails and you write an e-mail, EUROPETNET carries out in-depth research to assist in the tracking process. 0ur team will manage the inquiry from the beginning through to conclusion.

I see an unfamiliar country code. Should I still look for an owner?
Yes, please do ! Many times, animals have moved from one country to another and therefore still have the country code from their original country, but live elsewhere. Also, many "country codes" are actually not country codes but manufacturers codes.

Why are not all databases members yet? What about France?
Some databases have not yet realised the importance of cooperation between databases. Please help us to explain it to them.
Others are not yet fully organised themselves.
France is on the way of becoming member but some organizational changes are necessary.
Each year, new databases enter Europetnet, so we are in a growing process. Please send us the details of any database that might become a member in future.
